Do you feel your prayer life is stale? Maybe nothing much is happening there, or you don’t feel any sort of accomplishment when you pray. There are a few reasons that could be, but one of them could be that you aren’t fully aware of the kind of power you’re tapping into, and what sort of tools you have at your disposal. The Ultimate Authority has ultimate authority and unlimited power. We need to understand how that affects us and our prayers.
There is nothing like the Word of God. It invigorates me, corrects me, amazes me and brings me to my knees. Recently, as I was praying for a friend with a serious illness, it emboldened me. I came across some amazing verses that I know were no coincidence. Having just read about praying with power and authority, these verses resonated with me and all the sudden, I felt bold. Do you feel as if you can boldly approach the throne of God and His mercy seat and be in the presence of the Almighty? The ALL MIGHTY. Our Creator and Heavenly Father, He is over all of those things you are asking for, praying about and praising over. They are subject to Him. He longs to be compassionate to us, but we must believe and trust in His power and authority to access it.
Get out your swords, ladies. We’re about to have a power and authority pep rally. Find Ephesians 1:20-22 and you probably will say hallelujah when you read it. Because it tells us that our savior, Jesus, having been crucified as atonement for us and raised from death, is seated at the right hand of God, and is far above all other rule and authority and power and dominion, with His Name being above every name that is named both now and forever. He has all things under his feet…all things. Do you read that? When we pray in the name of Jesus, we are taking our petition straight to the top. We’re not working our way up the ladder here; we are taking it directly to the One who has power and authority to get it done. Want more proof? The same principle is taught by Peter in 1 Peter 3:22, “Jesus is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities and powers having been subjected to him.” We are reminded of that same important principle again in Colossians 2:15, “He (God) disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him (Jesus)”. Triumphing! The cross brought triumph over all the things that you are praying over. They are secured in heaven. Illness is healed, fear has lost its power, and death has lost its sting. Our prayers are simply a request to manifest those same triumphs on earth. But the battles are already won. If that doesn’t make you want to praise Him, what does?
If not the fact that His death brought us life, if not the fact He is the authority over all things, how about rejoicing over the fact that we have access to His power and authority? John 3:35 tells us that the Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Through our belief in Jesus, according to Colossians 1:13, we are “delivered from the domain of darkness and transferred to the kingdom of his beloved Son.” The domain where darkness had authority is not where we’re living anymore, but through Jesus and His kingdom we have His authority and power. We are heirs in Christ and through Him, have access to His authority. We get to use His Name. The Name above all names. We have the power and authority to take the word of God, the name of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit and run the enemy out of our affairs. To “Put Him on the Bus” as we like to say. We don’t have to ask God to fight for us, He’s already doing that…but we have to take advantage of the authority and the tools He’s given us and fight with Him. James 4:7 Implies the word “you” when he says, [you] “resist the devil and he will flee from you.” Like the armor of God, we have to choose to put it on and use it. God backs us with His Word, but we have to take our position of authority and assume responsibility to use what He provided for us.
When we pray over situations for our family, friends, even our country, know what kind of power backs you up and whose authority you have. Take your God-backed, Jesus-won-it authority and pray with it! And take that, enemy. Take that, sin, sickness, fear. Take that, anything that would set itself up against the knowledge of God in our lives or our children’s lives. TAKE THAT, because the One who fights with us has already beaten you!!!! BOOM!
